Fibreglass pool

If you are looking for outdoor pool – fibreglass pool is one of the best choices. An outside of the pool is covered with, UV rays and other external irritants, resistant layer “Gelcoat”. Also, pool is covered with insulation material so it minimizes heat losses to the environment. Another feature that admires clients - a possibility to easily renew scratched or damaged fibreglass pool without dismantling it. Due to these reasons, fibreglass pools are long-living.

Body of the pool is made of polyester using a special formula – composition of epoxy resins and fibreglass; there is a special ceramic layer in its core which provides additional durability and thermal insulation.

Important thing is that pool does not need to be concreted. All you need is to excavate a pit of proper dimensions and to prepare a solid base. A fibreglass pool is pre-assembled in factory and can be transported to site using special transport. Finally, a pool is loaded into a ready pit using crane, and all equipment is installed. Finally, the pool is filled with water and embedded in the ground. Water treatment and disinfection equipment in the fibreglass pool is the same as in concrete pool.

One of the most important advice during selecting a fibreglass pool – pay attention at manufacturer and do not get cheap analogy. Technology of the pool may differ and not all manufacturers use proper resins. Saving on materials can result in structural faults of the pool, for example, a cracked “Gelcoat” surface layer or emerging bubbles in internal layers.

Preparation

Installation instruction of fibreglass pool

Before pool installation, it is important to ask builders for an advice. They will help to decide which place is best for installing pool and will give information about special soil.

“Poolpro” team will select, design, and install your pool and its equipment.

Preparation of pool pit

Before excavating a pit, please check if pool will fit in your land-plot. Estimate if there is enough space for the crane to operate near your place. Excavate a pit 300 millimetres bigger than dimensions of the pool. Depth of a pool pit should meet depth regulations. Also, estimate that under the bottom of pool a draining base has to be made (of high density breakstone, fraction of 8-32 millimetres). Additionally, a 50-millimetre smoothing layer of small breakstone/ gravel is necessary. We recommend cover walls and a bottom of the pool with layer of geotextile. In that way, new soil will be separated from old one. It is necessary to implement pool equipment installation: mount water collector (skimmer), water supply parts, lighting and connect piping and electrical systems with the utility room (where filtration/circulation equipment will be mounted). If a pool is not water-proofed in the factory, we recommend do it on your own, in that way water will be able to keep heat longer. After all the said works are done, walls of the pool (from outside) can be covered with a layer of breakstone or coarse gravel (not sand). When outside of the pool is being covered, inside of the pool must be filled with water at the same time (do NOT fill pool with water if outside of the pool is not covered with layer of breakstone). Water level in the pool has to be at same level as level of breakstone in outside, maximum deviation – 10 centimetres. In order to ensure pool stability in the pit, filling up pool with water should be started at the corners first. Make sure that when outside of the pool is being covered with breakstone it will reach all cavities under the pool bottom, stairs. We recommend to make a soil a bit more dense by pouring some water on it and smoothing with shovel or some bar. During outside covering process of the pool with breakstone layer, check a deformation of pool body on the widest place (to inside or to outside). Deviation should not exceed 5 mm from the initial position. When outside of the pool is being covered with breakstone, the body of a pool must be strengthened with crossbars. If an excavated pit is way larger than provided for by a pool installation manual, all free space has to be filled with breakstone since existing soil can be not enough stable for embedding a pool.

  1. Fibreglass pool is deepened for 135 cm.
  2. Polyurethane layer (insulation).
  3. Breakstone of fraction 8-32 mm, thickness of the layer should be more than 300 mm from the pool wall.
  4. 5 cm smoothening layer of small gravel/ breakstone.
  5. Breakstone of fraction 8-32 mm, thickness of the layer – 300 mm.

Note: If a pool is emptied for cleaning or other maintenance works – fill pool with water as soon as possible after works are finished. Do NOT leave empty pool for more than 1 day. Pool has to be filled with water all the time, during all seasons and even if it stays unused. In case when there is a high level of groundwater, drainage system must be installed around all perimeter of pool. If client does NOT install drainage system, the contractor is NOT responsible for any damage caused by groundwater. During winter season, an outdoor pool in any way has to be filled with water and ice separation envelopes must be installed.

Installation of drainage system

In case when there is a high level of groundwater (or it can occur in the future), drainage system must be installed around all perimeter of pool. Drainage system prevents a pool from deformation caused by motion of water around it. Also, groundwater has influence on temperature of pool water. Never empty a pool, if you are NOT sure there is no groundwater!
We recommend to install drainage system by surrounding pool with PVC drain pipe with geotextile cover and to direct water to a PVC well. Before installing a drainage system, please consult with specialists regarding a soil because the drainage system and diameters of a pipe may vary on different soil composition. If there is no natural drain system, a drainage pump must be installed. The lowest of point of the drainage system has to be at lower height than bottom of the pool.
